How to Add a Second Claim Member

To add a 2nd claim member to your club, the athlete must have an Active Competitive athlete role at another affiliated club and they must have already paid their England Athletics registration fee through their first claim club.

To add an athlete as a 2nd claim member:

  • Sign in to the myAthletics portal
  • Click ‘All Members’ on the left-hand side menu
  • Click ‘Add Member’ in the top right of the page
  • Enter the athlete’s Title, First Name, Last Name and DOB exactly as it has been set up for their existing athlete account.
  • The system will recognise that the athlete already has an active athlete role with another club and will flag this on screen.
  • Click ‘Associate Member’ to continue adding the athlete as a 2nd claim member
  • In the ‘Athletics Status’ drop down list choose ‘Second Claim’ - if this option does not appear it indicates that the member is not currently registered through their first claim club and they will need to complete their registration before you can add them.
  • Tick the privacy statement declaration to confirm the athlete is aware you are adding them to your club
  • Click ‘Associate Member’ and the member will be added to your club

Difference between First and Second Claim Clubs

When you join a running club, providing it is your only club, that is your first claim club. If you subsequently join another club, that will be your second claim club. You can race as an individual in open races for any club you are a member of. However, for league and championship races and to count as part of a scoring team, you have to compete for your first claim club, unless it is not affiliated to UKA for that discipline, or is not participating in that league.

This system is primarily designed to stop elite athletes swapping from club to club regularly. If you compete in a race in which your First and Second Claim Clubs are in contention then you must represent your First Claim Club.  If the competition does not offer a team prize then you may compete for either club.

Can you have more than one second claim running club?

You can belong to more than one club, but you can only have one 'first claim' membership and you can have as many 'second claim' memberships as you wish. You will generally enter races under your first claim club, but you can choose to enter under your second claim club if the rules of the race allow this.
