Hi

Thank you for your email.

The Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running Workshop (SLAGRW) is a 2hr course, comprised of theory and practical elements that individuals can take to become a licensed guide runner. Following the course, candidates need to have a valid DBS and complete the online First Aid and Safeguarding course. Once the license has been issued, candidates are invited to join the Find a Guide database in which visually impaired runners can find guides in their local area and make contact. More information can be found on England Athletics and RunTogether

In addition to the course, it is required that you complete the online Safeguarding module and online First Aid module, have a valid DBS and a recent picture uploaded to your MyAthletics Portal. You can complete these steps before attending a Sight Loss Awareness course and it will help streamline the process as you will be eligible for you license as soon as you've completed the course in the future.

We have a number of courses currently available, you can find the courses on Athletics Hub

If you cannot find a suitable course, you can submit your location via the expression of interest form on our website which goes live in September 2024. I would advise you to refer back to our Sight Loss and Guide Running page in March the following year for an update on course locations and booking information

Many thanks for your interest

Have a nice day
